Member for Charlton, Greg Combet congratulates the 60 new Australian citizens who received their citizenship at the special Australia Day celebrations in Lake Macquarie today.

“The decision to become an Australian Citizen marks the final stage of a migrants journey. The new citizens have come from many different parts of the globe: UK, Sri Lanka, South Africa, America, Ukraine and Cambodia, just to mention a few”, Mr Combet said.

Australia Day is a chance for all Australians to enjoy our nation’s special day, and celebrate being part of such a wonderful country.

“Becoming an Australian citizen shows commitment and loyalty to this country and a desire to share a common future”, Mr Combet said.

A record, 16 698 people from 130 countries are expected to become Australian citizens at ceremonies around the country today.

“Right across the country we are welcoming new Australians and celebrating our diversity, I hope everyone in our region has a fantastic Australia Day”, Mr Combet said.
