Local secondary schools will now have increased access to world-class education and training opportunities, as three local school consortiums receive funding in Round Two of the Trade Training Centres in Schools program.
St Paul’s High School Booragul, Callaghan College – Wallsend Campus and Avondale School are parties of the successful consortiums which will increase resources at local schools.
Newcastle Catholic Schools Trade Training Centre, Newcastle Community Trade Training Centre and Avondale Trade Training Centre have secured more than $20 million in funding from the Rudd Government’s Trade Training Centres in Schools Program.
Member for Charlton, Greg Combet said the program aims to help young people become equipped with the skills they need to effectively and competitively participate in the workforce of tomorrow.
“It addresses skill shortages in traditional trades and emerging industries by ensuring Australian students have access to high-quality relevant education and training opportunities that engage and encourage them to complete their studies”.
“The Australian Government is increasing opportunities for young people in partnership with the states and territories and the non-government school sectors.”
On 3 February 2009 the Government announced a further $14.7 billion to build the education revolution.
“Congratulations to all our local secondary schools that applied for and were successful in Round Two of this Program,” Mr Combet said.
