Greg Combet, Member for Charlton was delighted to meet with Wangi Landcare today to discuss their planned work on the Wangi Peninsula Green Corridor Project.
Wangi Landcare received $18,181.82 from the Community Action Grant.
“This is part of the Rudd Government’s $2.25 billion Caring for our Country initiative which supports community organisations that play a vital role caring for, maintaining and promoting our natural environment,” said Mr Combet.
Wangi Ridge Preservation Board Landcare will use the grant to protect and enhance a recognised wildlife corridor. The group will adopt a whole system approach including an integrated weed management strategy, a community biodiversity enrichment planting program, and community education through a Case Study, two field days and sinage.
“Community Action Grants are a Government initiative that aims to help local community groups take action to conserve and protect their natural environment,” Mr Combet said.
“Community based landcare groups play an important role linking government and community-based conservation efforts and this funding will help them to continue their valuable environmental work.”
The funding targets established community –based organisations which have sustainable farming and/or protecting and enhancing the natural environment as their principle objective.
Environmental community groups could apply for grants of between $5000 and $20,000 to take action to help protect and conserve Australia’s environment.
