Greg Combet, Member for Charlton, welcomed the news that PCYC NSW, Lake Macquarie City Council and the NSW Department of Lands has signed the lease for the Morisset PCYC Outreach Centre.

“This is great news for the kids on the southern side of Lake Macquarie. They will now have indoor sporting facilities which is needed in that part of my electorate,” Mr Combet said.

“The Rudd Labor Government delivered $118,000 for the centre upgrade. The centre, located in Kahibah Street, Morisset, will be a multi facetted sporting facility.

John Mills, from the PCYC, said the local schools have approached him and are very excited about the opening of the centre as it offers indoor sporting opportunity for their students.

As part of the lease agreement Lake Macquarie City Council have had to upgrade exterior  facilities and will be tendering shortly for internal upgrades as well. The electrics, amenities and fire services will all be upgraded.

The PCYC will shortly begin work on an external fence and install an alarm system to secure the building.

The $118,000 provided by the Rudd Labor Government will go toward installing a synthetic sports floor which will accommodate indoor ball games.

“John Mills, from the PCYC tells me young people living on the southern side of the Lake will be playing a variety of sports including basketball, futsal and netball toward the end of the year,” said Mr Combet.
