MEDIA RELEASE

2 May 2012

Member for Charlton, Greg Combet, has today joined the Wangi Wangi RSL Sub Branch to officially hand over the keys to their brand new Toyota Coaster bus.

“The Federal Government has provided almost $120,000 through the Veteran and Community Grants program, which has enabled the Sub Branch to purchase the bus,” Mr Combet said.

“It will be a valuable addition to the community, with the Veteran’s using it to take day trips and mystery tours.”

“It will also be used by local community organisations, and I’m told the Morisset Pensioners have already booked the bus for a trip to Tocal.”

This latest funding comes on the back of almost $50,000 delivered to the Wangi Wangi RSL Sub Branch through a previous round of the program, which supported the establishment of a veteran’s drop-in and community centre, the only one of its kind in the area.

The Veteran and Community Grants program supports a range of community activities that promote healthy lifestyles for veterans, and aims to maintain and improve the independence and quality of life of the veteran community through financial assistance for activities, services and projects that sustain and/or enhance wellbeing.

Further information about the Veteran and Community Grants program can be found on the Department of Veterans’ Affairs website at www.dva.gov.au.
